During a speech yesterday at an army base in Fairbanks, Alaska, Sarah Palin told the Iraqi-bound soldiers they would be defending "the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the death of thousands of Americans."
The speech, which came on the seventh anniversary of 9/11, showed that Palin is likely the only person in the world who believes the Iraqis were behind the attack on America. Even the Bush Administration gave up that false premise years ago.
The McCain campaign really have their work cut out trying to fill the Grand Canyon-sized gaps in Palin's knowledge of foreign affairs. That's why senior McCain advisers followed her to Alaska, including top strategist Steve Schmidt, a veteran of Bush's 2004 campaign and a Karl Rove crony.
It looks like the strategy squad better step up the pace if they're going to keep Palin from making more ridiculous gaffes like this one and the dozens of others she made during her interview with Charles Gibson.
